We sat down with Dr. Eragi at the BioSpa medical spa in Newport Beach, California to discuss many skincare topics, including some of her top tips, and general advice on how to tackle a variety of skin issues. The first of these topics we are sharing is about skincare myths.
Dr. Eragi: Everyone should be concerned about their skin to some degree. Why? For starters, skin is the largest organ in the body. Numerous diseases have cutaneous manifestations. Skin cancer is by far the most common of all cancers in the United States. And, our skin layer has a microbiome layer that protects us from outside pathogens. That means that any disruption to our skin could potentially affect our health in general.
From a medical standpoint, those are just some of the reasons why it’s important to pay attention to your skin. From a general standpoint, skin is typically important to people because it’s what everyone else sees. Many parts of the skin are often visible. It can reflect a person’s age and can greatly affect a person’s self-confidence.
Dr. Eragi: I believe skincare myths often start with and are spread by people who are not trained in the field of dermatology or medicine in general.
Dr. Eragi: You can trust a board-certified dermatologist to get reliable information on skincare. Dermatologists have spent many years training and specializing in their field and have the real facts on skin and effective skincare routines. A consultation can help provide reliable information that’s the most relevant for your specific skincare needs.
Dr. Eragi: Just like people have different body types, people also have different skin types. The genetics and make-up of your skin are not the same for everyone. For that reason, the same skincare routine may not be appropriate for everyone.
Dr. Eragi: If you’re unsure about something you’ve heard or read, you can check out reliable dermatology sources such as the AAD or AOCD websites. Another good way to get the information you need is by consulting with a dermatologist. Feel free to reach out to me. I’m here to help. This is what I love to do!
