At Biospa, our commitment to ensuring that you feel happy with your appearance is vital to us. Nearly one and a half million women are currently dealing with cellulite. While methods such as exercise, weight loss, massage, creams and lotions, liposuction, and a variety of other skin treatments that fight aging and other skin issues, can help in reducing some of the appearance of cellulite, there is a newer, more innovative, and possibly even more effective option available.
Cellfina® is known for helping you “ditch the dimples” to boost your confidence. Patients choose Cellfina® when they experience a dimpling appearance under their skin known as cellulite. Cellulite is completely natural, but its appearance can cause self-consciousness for some individuals. The presence of cellulite can be attributed to poor connective tissue pulling down on the skin and causing a lumpy appearance. The exact cause of cellulite is not entirely understood, however, some factors that seem to influence its appearance including:
- Gender (80-90% of women experience some degree of cellulite)
- Hormonal changes
- Poor circulation resulting in lower collagen production
While cellulite can be difficult to treat, patients can choose Cellfina® for long-lasting results and minimal downtime. Cellfina® can be used to treat the thighs and buttocks, the most common areas for cellulite to occur.
Cellfina® works to treat cellulite at its source, rebuilding the connective tissue between fat cells for a smoother appearance. The connective tissue in a woman’s body is woven through fat cells, making cellulite more common. The bands of the connective tissue can pull downward, particularly as a woman ages, and this effect is what creates the “dimples,” or the appearance of cellulite. The Cellfina® system uses a needle-like instrument. It works by releasing some of the tension on the bands and helping the skin form back into a smoother surface.
The procedure for Cellfina® typically is an in-office visit and is handled by one of our board-certified Newport Beach plastic surgeons. You do not usually need to undergo general anesthesia and a local anesthetic can be used to numb the treatment area. The needles are then inserted beneath the skin to break up the tension in the connective bands, resulting in smoother skin. Typical treatment times will last about 45 minutes.
Cellfina® is minimally invasive, allowing patients to leave the office after treatment and go about their day with little downtime. Patients can expect some bruising, swelling, and tenderness after treatment. With these tips, patients can ensure a more comfortable time post-treatment:
- Avoid strenuous activity and exercise for at least 24 hours.
- Use an over-the-counter pain medication to minimize discomfort.
- Avoid intense heat from a hot shower, hot tub, or direct sunlight for at least a week.
- Wear your compression garment as instructed to minimize swelling.
BioSpa® was my first medical spa experience and I have to say that it was a great one! I was referred by a friend to go to this medical spa because she has always been raving about the great experience and results. The staff is very polite and helpful, answering any questions I had.
In the days following treatment with Cellfina®, patients can begin to experience improvements with results that continue over the next three months. Our patients have reported seeing improvements after about three days. According to the studies completed on the effectiveness of Cellfina®, 86% of patients were satisfied three months after their treatment, 94% of patients after one year, and 96% of patients after two years. These numbers are some of the highest reported, and certainly above many other past forms of cellulite treatment. The results of Cellfina® are proven to last up to three years.
Cellfina® is only minimally invasive, but for those who want a completely noninvasive solution to their cellulite, VelaShape III can also be effective. VelaShape uses heat and radiofrequency energy to improve the structure of the skin for a smoother appearance. Our board-certified plastic surgeons can help you determine which treatment will be best for you.
Before treatment with Cellfina®, patients must meet with one of our expert plastic surgeons to ensure they are a candidate and develop their treatment plan. To learn more about Cellfina® or to schedule your consultation in the Newport Beach, CA area, contact our office at (949) 732-3888.
