Dermaplaning is an exfoliating treatment that removes the topmost layer of dead skin cells, as well as fine, vellus hair (peach fuzz). A sterile surgical scalpel is used to exfoliate the skin, which is why it is only performed by our skilled nurses. This treatment results in ultra-smooth, fresh, and brighter skin.
Dermaplaning is very effective for those with rough or dry skin to help minimize acne scarring or uneven skin tone. It can also benefit maturing skin, which tends to have a buildup of dead skin cells. Dermaplaning is also a safe and effective treatment for women who are pregnant or lactating who cannot have chemical peels. Overall, dermaplaning is a great option for patients looking to enhance the overall glow of their complexion.
Treatment often takes less than 30 minutes to perform, making it a great “in and out” treatment option. During your session, we will first cleanse the skin. Then, one of our trained nurses will use a scalpel to gently scrape the surface of the skin using light strokes across the face. Treatment is painless and easy, which is one of its greatest benefits. Afterward a moisturizer will be applied.
The dermaplaning treatment includes deep cleansing, exfoliation in the form of dermaplaning, and skin care suited to your unique skin needs. We aim to provide you with smoother, silkier skin, as well as a healthy glow following your dermaplaning treatment.
It is recommended that patients receive a dermaplaning treatment monthly to maintain results.
After your dermaplaning treatment, follow these tips to ensure optimal results:
- Avoid heat, hot tubs, and exercising for 24 hours.
- Avoid products containing exfoliating agents for 24 hours.
- Mineral makeup can be worn immediately after treatment.
Following your dermaplaning treatment you may experience mild redness and swelling, which should resolve within 24 hours. After this time, you may resume your regular skin care routine and enjoy your smoother, soften complexion! There is no downtime needed following dermaplaning treatments.
At BioSpa, we also offer a number of treatment options that can be done alongside dermaplaning to further improve results. These include:
- Medical facials
- Chemical peels
- Vivace RF Microneedling
Dermaplaning is a popular treatment for special events as it smooths away the skin for that red-carpet glow. At BioSpa our skincare experts use the dermaplaning technique to scrape away dead skin cells and fine hairs on the surface of your skin with a special Teflon coated blade. Fine hairs may be otherwise difficult to remove with typical methods such as waxing, threading and laser. In just 15 minutes, dermaplaning will leave your skin brighter, glowing and silky smooth with ZERO downtime and ZERO discomfort. This can easily be done during lunch hour as a stand-alone treatment. Dermaplaning is oftentimes combined with another service such as a medical-grade Hydrafacial or Oxygen Facial.
Patients with Acne bumps or very irregular skin are not good candidates. For patients with a history of cold sores, it is important to pre-treat with an antiviral such as Zovirax. Some care should be given with avoiding retinol and glycolic products for 24 hours after dermaplaning.
Dermaplaning is performed by our registered nurses and Micro-Dermaplaning is performed by our aestheticians.
