Restylane® fillers are a group of dermal injectables, available in several different formulas depending on your specific needs. Restylane® is an injectable filler made of a clear gel formula of hyaluronic acid, formulated to act like your body’s own naturally produced hyaluronic acid. Restylane® works immediately to reduce visible facial lines, wrinkles, and folds. Restylane® is a popular injectable filler used to reduce the visibility of facial lines, wrinkles, folds and volume loss. Restylane® Lyft can improve your facial lines, or be placed in the cheeks to restore volume loss. Restylane® Silk is composed of smaller particles, effective at restoring lines around the mouth as well as volume loss in the lips.
Patients young and old are finding Restylane® fillers beneficial to their appearance and confidence. The formula can be used to fill in early signs of aging like fine lines, wrinkles, and facial folds that are present even when the face is relaxed. Older patients who have just begun to experience the effects of collagen loss, but do not need a surgical procedure yet can benefit from Restylane® fillers to restore their youthful appearance. Patients also choose Restylane® fillers when they want to enhance a feature of their face. You might have naturally thin lips or experience thinning lips with age. Restylane® Silk can be placed in the lips for a subtle enhancement. Patients also receive Restylane® filler in their cheeks for a slight lift.
Restylane® filler is a clear gel formula. When placed into line and wrinkles, the formula instantly fills in these areas for a smooth appearance. Restylane® fillers contain hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring substance that gives our skin its structure and adds hydration. This ensures the results of Restylane® are long lasting.
One of expert nurse injectors or board-certified plastic surgeons will meet with you to discuss your concerns and goals. Like other injectable fillers, Restylane® is sold per syringe. How many syringes you need will be determined during your consultation. Prior to injection, a topical numbing cream will be applied to the areas being treated to minimize discomfort. Once the cream has taken affect, your injector will administer the Restylane® with a small needle. Total treatment time varies from patient to patient, but on average you can expect your appointment to last between 45 minutes and 1 hour.
- Avoid intense heat from tanning beds, hot showers, or sun exposure until any swelling and redness have diminished.
- It is okay to gently massage the area if a bump is present following treatment.
- Use a gently facial cleanser after treatment to avoid skin irritation.
Results are immediate, but patients can expect some redness, swelling, and mild tenderness for a few days following treatment. On average Restylane® can last from 3-6 months depending on the area, the amount injected, your metabolism, and physical activity. Areas that are less mobile like the lower eyelids will have a longer lasting effect. We recommend having repeat treatments before all of the product has dissipated. You will require less product and you will maintain an optimal result.
Restylane® fillers are similar to other dermal filler formulas, so the appropriate one for you will be determined during your consultation. Fillers like Restylane® are often combined with other injectables like Botox® to treat different types of wrinkles – those that are caused by facial expressions like smiling or laughing.
Because the results of fillers are temporary, you might decide on a more extensive treatment options in the future. When you’re ready, the facelift, brow lift, or an eyelid rejuvenation can offer a dramatically younger appearance.
There are an increasing number of injectable fillers available, and it can be quite confusing to know which one is best for you. We can’t stress enough that your result is dictated not only by the type of filler used, but more importantly, the qualification and experience of the person injecting it. It is important you only be treated at a plastic surgery practice, dermatologist, or medical spa operated by a board-certified plastic surgeon.
