Asclera® for Spider Veins & Broken Capillaries

ASCLERA® (polidocanol) is FDA-approved for the treatment of spider veins and reticular veins on the legs. Sclerotherapy is the procedure performed by our medical staff by injecting the Asclera® solution into the affected areas.

What are Spider Veins and Reticular Veins?

Spider veins are fine red or blue veins. They are closer to the surface of the skin making them more visible and are called spider veins because they can branch out in different directions looking like a spider web. They are most commonly found on the legs or face.

Reticular veins are also called feeder veins and also lie beneath the skin’s surface but are blue and green. Unlike spider veins, reticular veins can enlarge when there is increased pressure in the vein.

How Does Asclera® Work?

Asclera® is an injectable agent that is inserted into the vein. It works by irritating the cell lining located inside blood vessels. This actions causes platelets and cell debris to attach to the blood vessel’s lining, causing it to clot. Over a period of time, the clotted veins are absorbed and visibility disappears.

What to Expect During a Sclerotherapy® Treatment

The BioSpa recommends a series of 3 to 4 treatments when treating the area for the first time. Most sessions last 30 minutes. Treatment typically includes both legs – front and back, upper and lower. Injections with the solution are made into the affected areas.

Compression to the treated area will be applied using an adhesive tape, compression stockings, or support hose. This is determined by the severity of the veins. Extensive vein clusters or larger veins usually require support hose. Compression stays in place for 2 – 3 days. If necessary, treatments can be repeated in 4 – 6 weeks.

What to Expect After a Sclerotherapy Treatment

Immediately after the vein removal treatment, patients are encouraged to walk. We advise avoiding hot saunas, sunbathing, long air travel, hot baths, or heavy exercise for 1 week following treatment. Patients may experience some bruising, redness and/or itching for a few days. In many cases the treated area will look worse before it looks better. It takes approximately 3 – 6 weeks to see full result.

On average, 89% of BioSpa patients were satisfied or very satisfied with their Sclerotherapy treatment using Asclera®.
