What is a NOVA Thread Lift?
The NOVA thread lift is a nonsurgical technique, used to subtly lift areas of the face or body. Unlike some other thread lift techniques, NOVA threads are composed of polydioxanone (PDO), an absorbable material that also stimulates the body’s natural collagen production. When the threads are placed under the skin, signs of aging are improved for natural-looking rejuvenation without scarring.
NOVA Thread Lift can be used to treat the following areas:
Face
- Forehead
- Brow lift
- Glabella
- Crows feet
- Cheek lift
- Lip lines
- Jawline
- Nasolabial folds
- Marionette lines
- Double chin
- Neck submental
Body
- Abdomen
- Knees
- Arms
- Decollete
- Underarms (bat wings)
- Breast lift
- Tummy tuck
- Love handles
- Buttock lift
- Thigh lift
- Knee lift
Why Patients Choose the NOVA Thread Lift
Patients choose the NOVA thread lift when they begin to experience some of the most common signs of aging such as facial sagging, wrinkles, folds, jowls, or skin laxity in the neck. While NOVA threads are especially popular for the face and neck, they can be used virtually anywhere that a lift is needed including above the knee, in the upper arms, in the abdominal area, and in the thighs. PDO sutures are the safest material that can be implanted in the body and are even used in cardiothoracic surgery such as open-heart surgery. Ideal candidates are within the ages 30-65 with no prior surgeries to the treatment area. Patients might choose the NOVA thread lift to address their signs of aging when they are not quite ready for a surgical procedure like the facelift.
How it Works
NOVA thread lifts are performed in-office using a needle pre-loaded with a NOVA thread. The needle is then inserted under the skin where the thread will be placed, subtly lifting the skin. The needle is removed, leaving the dissolvable thread under the skin. Several threads will be placed in the treatment area and over the course of the next several months, will dissolve, leaving the body’s natural collagen to take its place. There are two different techniques for how the threads are layered under the skin including:
- Nu-Mesh: This technique uses smooth threads that are layered to resemble a net or hashtag sign. For example, two will be placed horizontally and three vertically to ensure a strong collagen structure.
- Nu-Lift: This technique produces more dramatic and immediate results using barbed sutures to grip the skin. Threads are inserted in a mesh pattern but can be pulled in two different directions to give an instant lift. Natural collagen will then secure the tightened skin.
Post-Treatment Recovery and Results
After treatment with the NOVA thread lift, some swelling, bruising, and discomfort can be expected, lasting about 5 days. Patients typically take this time off work to recover at home. After about 4-6 weeks, patients can begin to enjoy the results of their treatment with younger-looking, lifted skin. As the threads are absorbed, the body’s collagen production is increased to smooth out wrinkles and folds in the area. Sutures are absorbed over the next 8 to 9 months and leave no scarring, unlike other thread lifts on the market. Over the next 2 years, collagen will continue to increase to maintain your results. Older threads are permanent but can be problematic, which is why dissolvable threads like the NOVA threads are proving more effective and safer.
