The BBL™ BroadBand Light laser is a state-of-the-art system capable of treating multiple skin concerns while being safe, non-invasive, and requiring little to no downtime. Patients benefit from effective results and quicker recovery time compared to more intensive laser treatments.

What is BBL™ BroadBand Light?

New advances in light energy have led to the development of the BBL® laser, which is safer and more effective than ever before. The BroadBand Light laser uses dual-lamp technology with infrared light energy, along with thermo-electric skin cooling to comfortably deliver heat below the skin’s surface to promote skin rejuvenation from the inside out. The broad range of wavelengths allow targeted treatment for a wide range of skin conditions and the flexible adapters enable our nurses and doctors to treat hard to reach areas.

At our Newport Beach medical spa we primarily treat the following skin issues with the BBL™ BroadBand Light laser:

  • Sun damage
  • Melasma
  • Pigmentation
  • Age spots
  • Acne
  • Poor skin texture
  • Fine lines/wrinkles
  • Overall skin quality

Treated with BBL™ BroadBand Light and Rejuvapen micro-needling to improve the appearance of Rosacea.

The BBL™ laser effectively treats sun-damaged and aging skin by absorbing the unwanted melanin causing pigmented lesions. A few days following treatment, the lesions will darken and fall off. The laser can target the full face or spot-treat smaller areas. Skin will become smoother and healthier with an immediate change in texture and tightness.

What to Know Before your BBL® Treatment

The BioSpa also offers the BBL™ SkinTyte/TyteLip for individuals seeking a non-surgical solution for skin laxity. The SkinTyte® treatment provides laser skin tightening for the face, neck, arms, breasts, abdomen, thighs, legs, hands and buttocks. The TyteLip treatment targets fine lines and wrinkles around the lip area. Visit our BBL™ SkinTyte/TyteLip page for more information.

Sun exposure must be avoided for a minimum of 2 – 4 weeks before treatment. Use sunscreen diligently and avoid tanning beds.

Most patients require a series of 3-5 treatments at 2-4 week intervals to achieve optimal results. Additional treatments may be necessary depending on the severity of the skin condition.

What to expect at your BBL™ BroadBand Light treatment at the BIOSPA

The benefit of having a BBL treatment is that it’s gentle, non-invasive, and safe. Most patients experience little to no discomfort, however this varies from person to person and also depends on the depth of the treatment. Most patients tolerate the treatment without a topical numbing agent, however we do offer this as an option. If needed, the cream will be applied approximately 30 minutes prior to the start of the laser treatment. Prior to beginning, a cold gel will be applied to the area being treated and protective eye wear will be provided. Even with the eye wear, we encourage patients to keep their eyes closed to avoid the bright light emitted by each pulse.

The hand piece is gently applied to the surface of the skin delivering light in precise pulses across the treatment area. A mild stinging sensation, like the snapping of a rubber band, may be felt when the pulse crosses the skin. Total treatment time varies between 10 minutes – 25 minutes, however plan on being at our medspa for a total of one hour.

What to Expect After Your BBL Treatment

Patients can return to normal activities immediately following treatment. Visible redness will be present for a few hours. If need be, make-up can be used to cover the area. Although rare, minor swelling can occur. If treated for pigmentation issues, brown areas will becoming darker eventually falling off within 10 – 14 days. Sunscreen must be worn at all times to protect your investment and maintain results.
