DYSPORT® NEWPORT BEACH

Like the more well known Botox® brand, Dysport® is an injectable used to temporarily improve the look of frown lines without changing the look of your whole face. The untreated facial muscles still work normally, allowing you to freely show facial expressions, such as smiling, in untreated areas. Over time, the use of muscles above and between the eyebrows cause wrinkles. Injecting Dysport® into these areas blocks the signal from the nerve to the muscles, reducing muscle activity. The result is temporary softening or elimination of visible wrinkles/lines.

How is Dysport® different than Botox?

Both Botox and Dysport are made with botulinum toxin type A proteins and work in a similar fashion. The Dysport® protein is slightly smaller allowing it to work more quickly; 2-3 days after treatment. For people wanting to look good for an event, trip, etc. with short notice, Dysport® might be a better option since results can be seen faster than with Botox®.

How long does Dysport® last?

Dysport® can last up to 4 months. This will vary from person to person. You should not be treated more than every 90 days. Dysport® does require more units compared to Botox®, but it is priced much lower. In most cases, the cost ends up being very similar to one another. Dysport® does take affect quicker than Botox®.

Who is a candidate for Dysport®?

Many people think Dysport® is used to treat lines and wrinkles due to aging. While age can be a factor, repeated facial movements, such as frowning or squinting, can also create frown lines, which means they may develop even in younger adults. Some people have stronger more active muscles resulting in visible lines at younger age. Treating wrinkles and lines due to muscle activity is key to maintaining your appearance. The longer they are left untreated the deeper, more severe they become, requiring more product and increased frequency of treatments.

Dysport® may be a good option for patients who have become resistant to Botox® due to repeated treatment over long periods of time.
