Restylane® Silk has recently been approved by the FDA for release in the United States. It’s the first and only approved product specifically designed for smoothing wrinkles and lines around the mouth, as well as replacing lost volume. The BioSpa® by Pacific Center for Plastic Surgery is now offering Restylane® Silk to patients desiring lip enhancement.
What is Restylane® Silk?
It is similar to the other fillers in the Restylane® family. It is a clear gel made of hyaluronic acid, which is naturally present in the body. Restylane® Silk is manufactured by Galderma, who also manufacturers Dysport, Restylane, Restylane Perlane and Sculptra.

What Makes Restylane® Silk Different?
A common complaint of aging are fine lines and wrinkles around lips, as well as loss of volume and shape. The mouth show signs of aging as an individual gets older, which often results in lip thinning and an increase in vertical lines above the lip. Restylane® Silk was designed specifically to address these concerns and offers a natural way of enhancing your lips. Restylane® Silk is made with smaller, smoother particles than those used in other Restylane products. Restylane® Silk’s unique particle gel formula, along with an ultrafine needle designed for improved accuracy, provides more natural precise results.
What to Expect During your Restylane® Silk Treatment
One of our registered nurses or plastic surgeons will first meet with you to discuss your concerns and determine if you are a candidate for Restylane® Silk. The product does contain a numbing agent called lidocaine, however some patients may prefer a topical numbing cream as well. The lip area is sensitive, so it is not uncommon for patients to request numbing cream prior to treatment. Treatment time typically takes about 30 minutes.
What to Expect After Your Restylane® Silk Treatment
Patients typically experience some minor swelling that lasts a day or two. In rare cases, there could be minor bruising. Some patients bruise more easily than others. Some medications, if taken regularly, can increase the risk of bruising as well (fish oil, aspirin, vitamin e, etc.). Any bruising should be easily masked with make-up. Results are immediate, so you will notice instant improvement!
How Long Does Restylane® Silk Last?
Restylane® Silk is expected to last 6 months up to 1 year, however this will vary from patient to patient. Some studies show a collagen stimulatory effect that may allow longer lasting in certain individuals.
Is Restylane® Silk Reversible?
Absolutely! Like all hyaluronic acid fillers, Restylane® Silk can be dissolved if requested. A simple injection performed in our Newport Beach medical spa can remove the product within 24-48 hours This type of request is extremely rare, as most patients love their rejuvenated lips!
